JULY 2025

I’m back with an entry for the “What I’ve Been Consuming” series, and I am extremely excited about this one. These past couple months have been nothing short of extraordinary. I have felt on top of the world; supported, appreciated, excited, joyful, enthusiastic. I feel like me! What a great feeling! As such, I’ve brought back one of my most favorite things, which is to write. Here’s what’s been rocking my world lately.

MUSIC

Mt. Joy, The Elovaters, and Stick Figure

Did I shock anybody? Probably not. Quite the mix of music going on for me lately, but by far these are my top three bands of July. Mt. Joy released a new album in May that has been on repeat for me - it’s raw, emotionally deep, and showcases a bit more rock than the folk band usually claims. It’s an album that would transcend the crowd during concerts, which is why I’ve been on the lookout for some upcoming tour dates. Alongside them has been, of course, The Elovaters and Stick Figure, my hometown BOYZ who have kept their top 5 spotify wrap rankings for the last 3 years. The Elovaters are my one true love but Stick Figure blew me away at the Levitate Music Festival (see photos above) making me more obsessed with them than ever. Quite literally my favorite bands right now and have been on repeat in my car.

MOVIES

Coyote Ugly

If you know me, you know that at the ripe age of 11 I told my mom I wanted to work at Coyote Ugly. Mind you, I was sick and delusional, but nonetheless I was captivated by the story of a small-town jersey girl moving to the Big Apple and making it big while also getting to dance on top of tables all night long for tips. I rewatched this with a friend of mine, only further reminding me of my ultimate dream of conquering the concrete jungle at some point in my life.

TV

The Bear

Huge fan of this one, but it took me an insanely long amount of time to find my groove with the show. I do not think I actually loved it until the middle of season 2. Since then, however, it’s been great, with minor disappointment from season 3 and slight confusion (so far) in season 4. Richie is a “fuckin’ g,” as he himself would say. Still cranking through it and will let you know what I think.

BOOKS

Man's Search For Meaning

I meant to read this abroad, but I never got around to it. I picked it up in an attempt to get to know myself better and find meaning in my life. Little did I know that abroad would give me that without books. Nonetheless, I began tackling this book about a week ago. What I did not recognize, however, was the sheer specificity with which Frankl depicts life in concentration camps. I have read loads of historical fiction surrounding the topic of being a jew in Nazi Germany during World War II, but for whatever reason, the analytical and apathetic explanations Frankl details in each sentence leave me wrecked. I have been moving through it very slowly, but I am grateful that I chose to read it, because I think it will be extremely worthwhile.

FOOD

anything eggs

I wish cholesterol didn’t exist. I love eggs, I eat them every morning, until my dad catches me eating them every morning and reminds me that cholesterol builds up and heart disease is the leading cause of death in America. But then again, I could be eating a sausage mcmuffin every morning, but I choose to fuel my body with healthy protein and fats like eggs, but eggs give me cholesterol and so perhaps they are bad. Nonetheless, I am an egg fiend. You cannot stop me (yet). Scrambled, over easy, as an omelet, on a bagel. High protein and doesn’t make my tummy hurt, what more could you ask for?

DRINK

beer...yay!

hi mom and dad!
hi mom and dad!

Well, dur. Self proclaimed beer and wine baddie since turning 21, beer is my preferred drink of choice lately as I’ve been drinking more casually with friends and family. I’m usually found sipping on a Sam Adams Summer Ale in the heat of the summer with my friends or at Fenway.

PICK OF THE MONTH

The Strava App

post-run strava flick, obviously

RUNNING GAME ON FLEEK! I have been running consistently for a year now and am at 10K distance. Strava has been a great way for me to track my progress, and I have loved every minute of it. I just invested in a Garmin watch to further my progress, so I will keep you in the loop. My goal is to run the Syracuse half marathon in March, hopefully I can manage it.

NEW CATEGORY: Hobby of the Month

guitar

In recent weeks, I have noticed I have a lot of hobbies. Whether that is watching movies, walking my dog, running, lifting weights, learning new things, etc, etc, I do a lot and love it all. This new hobby of mine, however, is one that is very special to me because it is one that I have tried to initiate dozens of times. I have taken up the guitar! I am a lefty, but lucky for me some of my friends are the best teachers and I have taken up new songs pretty easily. Hit me up if you want a rendition of Stick Season or Riptide, because I can give it to you. Here’s to loving music and trying new things.

Let me know if you have tried any of these, or love them as much as me! Till next time, quack on!!!
