I came up with this recipe all by myself in elementary school, and am still very proud.

When my brother was in high school, he had to get his tonsils removed. He spent most of his days curled up on “his” couch (which has a literal imprint of his body on it) binge-watching the entirety of Breaking Bad. To make him feel better, I decided to concoct a milkshake and presented it to him very proudly. I can't remember exactly how old I was, but I do know it was between grades 3 and 5. He loved it and asked for more, which then came to making it almost every night, and later a recipe card that is now stowed away with the rest of our family recipes.

As the summer nears closer, and I crave ice cream after nearly every dinner when the weather is above 70, I present to you my family famous oreo cookie milkshake recipe!

The Stats:

  • 4 minute prep time

  • Approx. 2 minute blend time

  • Total: 6 min

  • Serving size: 2 (or if you are like my brother, probably 1)

What you’ll need:

  • A blender

  • A package of oreo cookies (if you like a specific kind of flavor, feel free to experiment with those! We one time used Peanut Butter Oreo Cookies, and that was a hit)

  • Vanilla ice cream of your choosing

  • Milk of your choosing

Steps:

  1. Take your blender and put in about 6-8 oreo cookies inside. It helps if you break them up a little bit beforehand, maybe into 2-4 pieces, to help your blender not get stuck.

  2. Grab your ice cream, and take about 5 scoops into your blender

  3. Add as much milk as you think is necessary for your blender to create a milkshake consistency. For our circa 1999 family blender, this took about 3 cups, but it can vary

  4. Feel free to add more cookies or a little more milk. Blend until a milkshake consistency forms, and taste test to make sure it is to your liking

  5. Pour in a glass and serve; our family opted for hershey syrup around the glass, whip cream and hershey syrup on top, with an extra oreo on top too!

  6. Enjoy!

Let me know if you tried the recipe out, and what you think of it! My younger self would be very excited to have my milkshake out there for everyone to try.

Happy Memorial Day Weekend!
